Puritan Board Senior
Greetings PB brethren,

I recently found an excellent price on Francis Turretin's 3-vol. Institutes of Elenctic Theology (P&R, 1997) at this site. While I know nothing of this bookseller, I had a gift card to Lifeway, and they ordered the set and price-matched that website's cost.

The Euro to USD exchange rate came to $54. If you've been considering picking up Turretin, this is the best price I've seen for quite a while!

I'm excited about diving in!

That's a good price, when I retired they were given to me as a present by my children ,and I believe they were dearer then. Turretin is excellent, and I think that in past ages students had to study his works as a discipline.

Jim,

If they are, then I was mistaken...and need to take a trip back to Lifeway to pay the difference!

I had not considered that the site might be selling the individual volume, as opposed to the set.

I was going to jump on it but then saw the title - "Institutes Of Elenctic Theology Vol 3 HB" - and read that as just vol 3 in hardback. Maybe a quick email to them to clarify would solve the issue.

At any rate, thanks for being willing to share about a great deal!

Yes, that's true. Before Charles Hodge wrote his systematic theology (published in the early 1870s), as you know, students at Princeton were required to study Turretin.

Thanks for the update and the next best price. I am very tempted to buy but I think I need to prioritize my working through Bavinck first (I have a book buying problem :) ). But one of my long term goals is to get a breadth of systematic works across church history to compare. From what I have read here at PB, Turretin seems to get recommended fairly often.

At one time, it was considered the best Reformed ST text. Charles Hodge and R. L. Dabney were among the professors who assigned it as the primary text in their Systematics classes. Unless I'm mistaken, it only declined in popularity when Latin ceased to be used in the academy. It has only recently been translated into English.

You convinced me - Picked up a new copy for $79 shipped from a private seller on Amazon. The "under $80" psychological factor was too much to resist. :)
