PCA church plant in Monroe, LA

The PCA is planting a church in Monroe. Previous discussed in an older post the PCA state in Louisiana. If you would knew more see: https://pcamna.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Monroe-LA.pdf

What do you think? Could be this work successful?

From the site..."We are praying for a family that will seek out the unchurched and dechurched with the gospel of grace."

Seems to me the Presbytery should task an ordained Minister to do the task of "seeking out" and feeding the sheep in that area instead of "a family".

No. It's been tried and failed. The EPC church in Monroe has a strong witness in the lines of Ligonier and Banner of Truth. There is a strong Lutheran presence in Monroe. An ARP presence 25 minutes away. Another PCA church 35 minutes away.

Bible belt Baptist......it's going to be tough. And, as Earl said, it doesn't look like they're off to a good start.....

It strikes me as an uphill battle. I can understand the strategic thinking (groundwork so they could put in a RUF), but I wouldn't be optimistic.

I'd probably consider one of two other strategies - either target West Monroe instead of Monroe, or go in with a Black church planter and target the Black community. My third choice would be to partner with the OPC and try to plant an OPC church.

You have the problems of a not particularly dynamic community and a tainted brand there.

We should certainly be in prayer for the health and success of the work regardless of our own prognostications.

I think they're looking for a Pastor and his family, who can join the work. I may have read it wrong. Either way, this is a work of the Mississippi Valley Presbytery which is one of the more conservative/confessional Presbyteries in the PCA so I think it's worth giving the benefit of the doubt here.

I read it as family=church to avoid using church three times in the first paragraph; but maybe that's wrong. It is rather vague. Let's not make this something to controvert; plenty of other stuff to talk about. They asked for prayer; do that instead. Thread closed
