Hi,

My wife gave me the green light to get a Schuyler Bible for Christmas/ birthday. I'm torn between the Personal Size and Thinline NASB. Any advice? Probably will use mostly for preaching, but I do like to walk around at times (with the Bible), so not sure whether to go smaller or larger.

I’m not sure you should get an NASB at all right now since Lockman is about to release an updated edition.

Taylor,

I know they are redoing it; but it's projected now for 2019 or maybe even 2020. Besides, don't know if I'll like that one better or not.

That makes sense! I just didn’t know if you knew about it or not. I would hate for you to spend that kind of money and end up regretting it because you didn’t know about the update.

To answer your question, these Bibles aren’t that different, it seems to me. The page layout is exactly the same, they are just different sizes. If it were me, I would go for the thinline because it has bigger pages, yet the same paper weight. It would be better for the Bible laying open on its own for a pulpit or lectern.

In the end, they are both gorgeous and would serve you well.

I have two remarks:

1) Your wife gave you permission to buy a Bible?

2) I recommend being patient and waiting for the new NASB update. You don’t want to potentially regret spending this much money on a Bible, and wish you had waited for the NASB19 instead.

I’ve been thinking about the same things recently, and other than my desire to “have it now,” there is no reason for me to pull the trigger on a nice NASB before the update is complete. PLUS, there may well be new layouts/formats of the NASB offered with the update—Id much prefer to get a single column layout that doesn’t exist yet.

I think what Taylor and Randel are saying is that if the new NASB update translates baptismo as "immerse", it will be a significant improvement on earlier editions.

That was cheeky

I have a 2nd Edition Quentel NASB in red. Great workmanship. Though it is called Personal Size, it definitely qualifies as an "assault bible" (due to size/thickness and weight - which are definite pluses in my book). I really appreciate the heavier weight pages since I like to highlight and make notes. It rests well in the lap and lays flat on any surface (i.e. good for the pulpit). It is best quality bible that I have ever owned and I'm pretty sure it will be the last bible I ever own.

It seems you want a NASB. But, if you ever want my opinion about the KJV... their Canterbury KJV is excellent!

Probably a good suggestion. At that point the old version might go on clearance and be available for a lot less than now. Perhaps fewer choices on the options.
