I just put my son to sleep to this beautiful music. I thought I'd share it.

Wagner is one of my favourite composers, and von Karajan one of my favourite conductors.

von Karajan one of my favourite conductors.

As Furtwangler's successor (quite a story there!), HVK brought the Berliner Phil. to new heights. I love the stories about his closed eyes, especially of some concerto soloists who found it somewhat disconcerting (pun perhaps intended!).

He was a truly remarkable conductor, especially of Wagner and Bruckner!

Peace,
Alan

Wagner was a piece of work who could certainly compose a piece of work. My wife and I actually fell in love with each other due to our mutual love of Wagner while we were both in music school. Wagner had this remarkable ability to write a four-hour-long deceptive cadence, pushing tonality to its limits, thereby holding his audience captive by the throat due to the longing for resolve.

Tristan chord, anyone?

I feel as if I am caught in a perpetual loop from which we'll never escape! I cannot "amen" your "amen" of my noting the curiosity of Taylor saying "amen" to your observation about the Tristan chord.

Peace,
Alan
