The movie Unplanned is out today. Suppose to be a good movie about a woman who worked for Planned Parenthood and then got out of the business. I would encourage people to go see it if you can!

I normally read every part of what someone has to say about a subject before I tear apart each and every sentence they wrote. Tonight, I read a few paragraphs and realized the only thing he knows about Abby Johnson is what he saw in the movie. Maybe later when and if I get fired up I'll pick apart his disparaging, self-righteous, and ignorant summation of the movie. I saw the movie and it was very good. It lined up with her own accounts of her life there. Yes, she's Roman Catholic and yes the only way to change hearts is by proclaiming the Gospel. But it's repulsive to read something a person wrote about another person when they do not even know that person. It leans very close to breaking the 9th Commandment.

Actually, Jon does know quite a bit about Abby Johnson, since she called the FBI on him and another brother when they insisted that abortion should be called murder, and that it should be criminalised. This came about as a result of the film that he made: http://babiesaremurderedhere.com/ (they are now working on a sequel). He has had a long history with her, so his view isn't shaped by only watching a movie (as you claim).

The article doesn't come anywhere near to breaking the 9th Commandment, all it seems to have done is disagree with you, and now you are letting your emotions run unchecked by name calling.

Perhaps, you should make less assumptions about Jon. If you wish, I could put you in contact with him, and you can discuss your concerns.

I haven't watched the movie. Just writing regarding the review that Josh helpfully provided.

I did not find the opening of the review about mythology helpful or well-written. It seemed a bit forced and high up in the sky, so perhaps this is what Sarah reacted to. It turned me off and I normally would have stopped reading at that point.

It also seems many unbelievers know and can believe abortion is murder, so to demand conversion/salvation seems to demand too much: "The pro-life movement often says that we need to change hearts to change minds on this issue. I only know of ONE way to do that–with the truth that Jesus Christ died for sinners and rose from the dead."

The 3 myths are very important and well-written. These are things most of us would miss while caught up in the emotions of the film. Inconsistencies and contradictions NEED to be pointed out because there is so much fake news and propaganda out there designed to trick us or pull the wool over our eyes. So I REALLY appreciate Josh sharing this review and the reviewer for writing it to help us all see through the clouds to the truth.

There are some real quacks in the Pro-life movement. The "Abolitionists" and others sometimes are the quackiest.

If an atheist were to dissuade a woman from killing her baby, that is still a civic good. Not all anti-abortion efforts need to be evangelistic or tied to a ministry.
I am thankful to the Catholics for their lead in "life issues" for instance. And I am tired of the Protestant anti-abortion movement eating its own kind and in-fighting.

I saw the movie last night and I thought it was good. The thing I will never forget is seeing what an abortion actually does, how they kill the baby. It's graphic and I almost had to leave the theater. Abby Johnson is a woman who, before working for Planned Parenthood, had had two abortions, and the second one by the pill Ru-486. Again the scene where her body aborts the baby is very disturbing. How much she knew before she witnessed a patient's abortion at her clinic, I don't know. It is a powerful movie and one I will not easily forget.

The idea that people need to be converted in order to oppose abortion is fanaticism. They no more need to be converted to realise that abortion is murder than they need to be converted to realise that any other form of murder is murder. All that they need to do is acknowledge the dictate of the law of nature against murdering people. Opposing abortion is a matter of law and nature, not of grace, though since grace perfects nature we should expect the recipients of grace to be outstripping everyone else in the battle against infanticide.

If atheists, Roman Catholics, Jews, or anyone else who is unregenerate opposes abortion then such works, though sinful because not done to the glory of God, are "of good use both to themselves and others" and to their refusing to oppose abortion would be "more sinful, and displeasing to God." (Westminster Confession 16.7)

The article that Josh linked to actually had some decent points in it, but the argument was somewhat overblown. I also thought that his statement that "Becoming pro-life is not true conversion. It is merely self reformation" contradicted his earlier argument that "I believe that the only way to end this is with the gospel of Jesus Christ."

I agree with him that abortion should be immediately abolished. In the UK, we could do so immediately if our parliament had the will. In the USA, it would probably take a constitutional amendment to do so. Maybe there is some other way to end abortion immediately, but, in the meantime, we ought to welcome incremental measures as better than nothing. The laws that, for example, would ban abortion after 6 weeks will save many lives. To refuse to give thanks for such progress is ingratitude to God.

Hey Sarah, thanks for alerting us. I went to see it today and thought it was a great movie. And what an encouragement not to get discouraged in prayers that don't seem to be getting answered.

Gotta say thought that article was very good. Yeah it's a bit snarky in places, nothing wrong with that. I would counter it by agreeing with the above poster who said, basically, better to save some lives by an approach which involves a faulty philosophy than no lives by being absolutist.

But this writer is right in his points that being "pro-life" is not the same as being regenerate and the governing philosophy of the pro-life movement, whilst it has indeed saved lives, still has flaws. And his point about the Roman Catholic doctrine of sin is an interesting one.

I believe it is better to save as many lives as possible, through whatever incremental means. However, the fact is by adopting this "all are victims" approach we are allowing murderers to absolve themselves of guilt. We are saying they are not guilty of murder. That, too, is a gross injustice. But, maybe it's one we have to live with if it means saving lives in the here and now. I think the writer is correct to say that until there is the revival of true religion in our lands abortion will continue.

He also raised some interesting points about the varacity of this particular story. There are disagreements over the timetable of events, apparently. On the other hand this woman has become a vocal pro-life advocate. Truth matters though.

Has anyone seen the Gosnell film with Superman?

I don't understand the "all are victims" complaint. The godly protestors outside the fence did not convey that. And when Abby repents at the end, she fully grasps what she willingly did, and how desperately she needs God's forgiveness, and she turns and begins to fight for the babies. She knew she was guilty of murder. The victim mindset of the pro choice PP side is very well portrayed, and very accurate, but that's a good thing, that is exactly how they think, and an integral part of her story.

I think this is more in response to the fact that Ms. Johnson is opposed to referring to women who have or seek abortion as murderers.
