Hey everyone. I keep seeing the presbyterian conclusions of Genesis 17, but I come from a Baptist background and I can't help see the Baptist interpretation of that text. What I see is:
17:4 God made a covenant WITH ABRAHAM, making Abraham the covenant head and thus it was not the covenant of Grace.
17:6 National language begins to emerge
17:7 "I WILL establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations" - this is talking about many offsprings in a national covenant.
17:8 This is specifically establishing the national nature of the Abrahamic covenant. It talks of literal Canaan, not spiritual/metaphorical because it talks about Abraham being a stranger therein.
However, I am beginning to embrace a Presbyterian interpretation of the text.
What I need right now, once and for all, is a solid, orthodox, Presbyterian exegesis of Genesis 17, specifically the verses wherein God is defining the covenant.
Can anybody help me? Thank you very much.
