He hath delivered us from the tyranny and thraldom of that great Pharaoh; from Satan, sin, hell, death and condemnation by the mighty hand of our Moses, our grand captain, Christ Jesus: who on the cross gate the victory, spoiled our enemy, cancelled the writing of our bondage and servitude, brought us through the red sea, and by his bloodshed wrought our perfect and full deliverance.

Edwin Sandys, Sermons made by the Most Reverend Father in God, Edwin, Archbishop of York, primate of England and metropolitan (London: Henry Midleton, 1585), p. 125.

I'll have to quote this at my next Sunday School class. Teaching Middle Schoolers currently through the Heidelberg Catechism and they were genuinely excited to bridge from the section on "misery" to the section on "deliverance." They love when I bring in extra tidbits from history or people of faith from other periods.

It might add something to the lesson to let your pupils know that Edwin Sandys (pronounced Sands) was actually preaching before Queen Elizabeth I when he made the above statement.
