From the Aquila Report…

Lots of words… very little actual content. Even less on the linked website.

Basically it appears there is a schism in Vanguard Presbytery over “something” (but not described) and of course no other Reformed denomination is faithful enough for them. Shaking my head here. If this is the alternative to the PCA we’re in rough shape here.

I didn't predict it (but should have put money on it so to speak) and I am not surprised. The danger of continued splits is not just a consideration but it is a very high risk when going off and starting a new denomination is embarked upon as the only course of action among other choices. Splitting as a solution just becomes easier. Study James Durham's Concerning Scandal. Now, I'm not judging what led to this since we don't know any facts. So it is sad but it was predictable and should have been high on the list of "how do we guard against devouring each other" with contentions.

Did the Vanguard Presbytery, when they initially formed, have anything to say specifically about the 2nd and fourth commandments, and the RPW; i.e. did PCA violations of these have anything to do with their original splitting off from the PCA?

I could never get a firm grasp on the idea of exceptions when the idea was starting to form Vanguard. There are no rules posted or BOCO or anything I could find; maybe someone can: https://vanguardpresbytery.com/commitments/

It is odd that the text of the WCF that Vanguard posts to their site is that of the Bible Presbyterian Church which has been changed to affirm premill. Maybe it was easily had and gotten permission to use, but posting it without comment is strange.

I noticed, when looking their website over, that they affirm three offices of the church- elder, deacon, and evangelist. Overall, from their public information given, it seems their driving focus was evangelism and discipleship, and judging from no mention of worship issues, that it was not a priority?

I just realized that we have a Vanguard church in my city. I had checked them out before, when thinking of a church for a family member.

Splitters going to split.

" supplanting the Word of God with the word of man, and thus effectively denying the Headship of Christ over His Church. This most basic tenet of Biblical Presbyterianism being denied at the highest court of Vanguard Presbytery".

If that was an action of Vanguard's Assembly, they ought to be able to point to an overture/resolution/action. If one is going to charge heresy, one should be able to articulate it better than that.

The only conclusion I can draw from that is that Vanguard elected a Pope.

And looking at the website - is it a single congregation, a group of congregations, or a single person posting a website?

Vanguard was a split over Wokeness primarily, what they saw as a failure to discipline Greg Johnson, etc...

All I really know is that Vanguard posted some untrue and inaccurate things about the ARP when people asked why they didn't just join an existing denomination.

Oddly the Aquila link was dead in the OP but when I composed this it is active in this reply.

This was something that was unique about the RPCUS, the remnants of which merged into the Vanguard presbytery.

This is reminding me of the RPCUS. It split from the PCA, and in a few years over failure to agree and organize had split out of it directly or indirectly the RPCGA, RPC-Hanover, CRPC, and WPCUS (and probably a few more I'm missing). Now the original RPCUS after a split is merging back into the Vanguard, while some went into the RPCGA or RPC-Hanover before that merger.

The CRPC I mention above is the Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church, not be confused with this new Christ Reformed Presbyterian Church. And neither are congregation names but denomination names. https://covref.org/

Yeah it seems the are running out of names and are picking congregation names. Soon we’ll have five adjectIves for “presbyterIan.”

I just hate to see how uncharitable some of these breakaways can be existing godly denominations.

Incidentally I found your congregation's web page trying to find the denomination website.

Also, if I haven't mentioned to you before, I attended a church Wayne Rogers pastored in eastern Atlanta suburbs. I believe he also planted your church.

This is a simple name and is primed and ready for each split; just add an R.
RRCPC
Really Reformed Confessional Presbyterian Church
RRRCPC

RRRRCPC, etc.

Yes he did! And my wife and I attended his RPCUS church near Atlanta about 12 years ago when we were out of town.

I’d like to go with names like they use in the Eastern Churches -

Holy Orthodox Apostolic Presbyterian Church (General Council)
True Apostolic Presbyterian Kirk of the Greater Tri-State Area
Autocephalous Reformed Catholic Presbyterian Assemblies of the Western Hemisphere
Calvinist United Reformed Evangelical Presbyterian Churches in the Eastern Seaboard

:Has anyone spoken for the Calvinist Presbyterian Church? Our distinctive will be to ban all recreation on the Lord's Day except lawn bowling.

Maybe require all Psalm singing to be accompanied by musical instruments as set forth in the Scriptures.

We can rent out space at bowling alleys on Sunday Mornings for our church plants.

It's indeed woeful. Just the same, at this point I think there ought to be a standing rule requiring an acronym and perhaps a mascot. Something like C.O.P.s ( Christian Orthodox Presbyterians) or G.O.P.H.E.R.s (Greater Orthodox Presbyterians Hallowing Evangelistic Revival).

It ought also be required to sponsor intramural denominational picnic events.

Also, why don't you ever hear of 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, Presbyterian Churches? After all, he that shall be least.....

Actually, historically, at least in the first half of the 19th century, Presbyterian churches chose names like First, Second, as founded in a location or street names and eschewed saints names, etc., such that it was made fun of by at least one Episcopalian I've read.

Interestingly enough, my wife's cousin attends the only member of Vanguard Presbytery in Canada, and I know that church is acapella EP.

Which congregation? I'd like to check them out if any of our members might travel up in that direction.

the only member of Vanguard Presbytery in Canada
Not showing up on the denomination website.

Are these all former RPCUS?
The one in Kingsport was PCA back in the 90s to the best of my recollection. And it looks like they haven't updated their website - still showing Vanguard on the "about us" page.
