Slim pickings this week for parity games, since conference play is yet to really start. I had to dig fairly deeply to find any games with a decent chance at upset. Some good games in the Power 5, though.

If LSU is looking to turn their program around, there's a coach that's probably available that they should look at. He even won a national championship a few years ago. The guy's name is Orgeron.

I'm going to tie for first,

Florida St.
Purdue
Indiana
Coastal Carolina
BYU
Auburn
UMass
LSU
Maryland
NC State
Texas A&M
North Dakota St.

Tie-breaker
Michigan St. 27-21

Earl, while this is funny, you do know that we have a tie-breaking rule to cover this difficulty: the person who posted first wins, so Ben would still win if there was a tie between you two. ;)

Man, I was thinking of having the same strategy this week!

EDIT: That was before reviewing Ben's picks and seeing that he picked against my beloved Alma Mater, Penn State. I feel that I am required to modify my post to indicate that I can never pick against Dear Old State.

Ordinarily, my default reflex is to pick the Big Ten team in any matchup with a non-Big Ten school... UNLESS there are mitigating factors that I deem sufficient to do otherwise. For me, take it for what its worth, I think Auburn's two victories this season are more convincing than PSU's... then the other two factors: I tend to give slight preference to home team (this year Auburn) as well as who has the more compelling psychological driving factor, in this case I think it's Auburn's desire for revenge/vindication from last year's loss. Combine those things together and there's why I think Auburn will emerge victorious. Just a little window of insight into my selection process.

It should be an interesting game. I know Penn State is a slight favorite in Vegas, but I did not think we looked good against Purdue (I couldn't watch the Ohio game because of a Presbytery meeting, I recorded it but didn't get to watch the recording) so I wouldn't be surprised if we struggled. Beyond that, my only other real context is that my one close friend who is a big time Auburn fan is very down on their team this year. I'm hoping we win, but also wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the year we look back on this as a game between two teams that everyone thought was better than they were...

So just in case there are people who haven't noticed... we have three predictions of the tiebreaker game being 27-21 MSU. Earl's already been berated for this, but Ed, you may wish to change your score...

Interesting and close among the top guessers. We had three folks guess ten correct out of the non-tie-breaking games: Jason Frommer, Edward, and Andrew. All three guessed the wrong victor in the tie-breaking game, so the next tie-breaker is the closest winner's (Washington) score. Jason was 19 points off, Edward was 15 off, and Andrew was 18 off, making Edward the winner.

Edward 10 :flamingscot:
Andrew 10
Jason Frommer 10
Zach 9
Ben 8
Todd 8
Mark 8
Earl 8
Lane 8
Edm 6

Just a humble observation offered to the commissioner for consideration. In years past when nobody got the right winner in the tiebreaker game, we went to order of entry. A person who got close to winning team's score, but picked the game the wrong way, shouldn't be rewarded for the chance that they happened to get closest to the score made by the team they said would lose.

Imagine this. Two people are tied, and both pick the wrong team. A picked Michigan State to beat Washington 67-39. B picked Michigan state to win 34-31. The actual score was 39-28, Washington.

Who made a better pick? I definitely couldn't say the person who most incorrectly picked the score, person A, picking a huge MSU blowout (but is rewarded for getting Washington's score right).

Hence the only real option is to have a different criterion. Honoring "winners score" when the game was wrongly decided just doesn't make sense.

Todd, I'm sure you would remember better than I how that was decided in years past. My current order of tie-breaking is 1. Picking correct winner; 2. Closest winner's score; 3. Closest loser's score; and 4. Order of entry. If I do as you suggest, that would put 4 before 2 if all those tied for first picked the wrong winner, as happened this week. I am reluctant to introduce a new criteria that was not explicit either in your last year's rules or in mine. However, I am open to this suggestion if everyone else agrees with Todd. This would make Jason Frommer the winner this week. How do you all feel about it?

In my mind, #s 2 & 3 apply assuming they picked #1 correctly. But if #1 is incorrect, then to me it makes no sense to bother with score (for all the reasons Todd mentioned). If all the tied players pick the tie breaker game incorrectly, then in my mind it makes most sense to just go straight to "who posted their entries first."

I just assumed that was the case, and in my own tallying I had identified Jason F as the winner.
That makes sense to me.

I totally forgot to change some of my picks after I did this last week. :)

This is what I've decided to do. I'm not going to change week 3's results. But I will go with Todd's suggestion moving forward. If we go to the tie-breaker and everyone gets the winner wrong, then the first entry among the tied participants will get the victory for that week.

Sounds fair and just.
