English Standard Version
I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban.

King James Bible
I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

Which is it? And does this tell us anything of the ancient culture of where Job lived? I am looking for info on when and where Job lived and what sort of culture and who were his contemporaries. Trying to place him historically.

I would say it refers to both, depending on whether you are looking at it in terms of the form or the function. It would have been turban-like in appearance, but the head-dress would have served to distinguish the man as a man of rank and importance in that culture. Job says that righteousness and judgment were far more important to him as marks of nobility than the cultural insignia. This would indicate that he had a right to wear that insignia, seeing it would have been regarded as arrogance and presumption to lay claim to a class of dress which was above him. His other references to a wide sphere of influence and significant deeds of generosity, compassion, protection, etc., indicate he was a man of means and substance, which confirms the picture drawn in the earlier chapters.

Reverend Winzer, do you have a Polaroid between your ears? :)

Since Job was the earliest book, about what year was it written perhaps? Where was the location (UZ)? And was Job a Jew since he might have come before the sons of Jacob and have been outside of that line.
