Hi Puritan Board Moderators,
I just searched a key word to find some others in a certain city, and found that the search results showed many posts that were "regarding " the city or mentioned it, and some looking for others from there ( any given town would have same affect I guess) , but not really a listing of members FROM a city.... Could there be a way for a keyword to pull a list ( drawing from the location each person who chose to fill that out on their profile?) , to show who is from where?
thanks
ps- if not I will just find more creative ways to search :D

There used to be some geographical affinity groups. If they are still here, I don't know how to find them any more.

As for city specific, the board doesn't require anything more than the state, so I'm not sure how one could build a searchable database. And some of us probably aren't that keen on being easily tracked, although the city where I live has been identified several times on the board, and is known to most of the north Texas crowd.

I did have an online dispute that carried over to a private message dispute, where a beloved member of PB suggested that he would have his relative come over from Fort Worth and beat me up.

Wow that's really awful, to get a threat like that :(

Yes I didn't mean absolute details like an address or something haha not to really be found I just meant maybe a state or people could at least say they're an hour from Dallas or something so we have an idea. It seems like so many people are from Virginia and I'm on the west coast so kind of to get your bearings. But anyway yes there are lots of privacy issues, I even have one myself but I have felt that being on this board has been kind of a safe obscure place where it's not public so most people won't see where I'm from

There is no easy way to gather this sort of information without access to the database itself. I suspect Rich could figure this out as he is the only staffer that has direct access to the SQL database. In lieu of this, I created a Poll that might be interesting:
https://www.puritanboard.com/threads/pb-demographics-poll-your-current-regional-location.93869/

It is posted in a Member's Only forum, so the results are not viewable by the public.

An interesting (to me) aside regarding posting your region specifically is that it creates an inhibition in posting specific situations/problems. This because some of the members, or former members, of my congregation are on the board. Some of the members of PB know my pastor. So I have to be circumspect in my posting to avoid potentially posting something that might be misinterpreted, or embarrassing to a brother/sister.
For instance, I was going to post about an interaction I had with a PB member who was here for a short while but I refrained because, unless I named him specifically, some might have thought I was referring to a member of my local congregation, and this brother was from another state. Just another consideration as to unintended consequences of revealing too much information.
