Two examples:

Example No. 1

"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people."

or

"There's a sucker born every minute."

Example No. 2

Frost's Law (said by the American poet, Robert Frost [1874-1963]): "Good fences make good neighbors."

or

Chesterton's Law (said by the English writer, G. K. Chesterton [1874-1936]): "Never tear down a fence until you know why it was put up in the first place."
 
Another favorite: "There's never enough time to do it right, but there's always enough time to do it over."
