[BIBLE]1 Corinthians 14:18[/BIBLE]

I have been listening to Bryan Denlinger who takes the view, consistent with Acts 2, that these were foreign languages. Paul spoke Aramaic, Arabic, Hebrew, Greek and Latin.

In David Prior's book he says the Greek precludes this interpretation p239.

Does the Greek rule out Denlinger's interp?

I can't speak to the two different claims, not having enough information. As to the passage in Corinthians, the reference is certainly to languages which are able to be identified linguistically and culturally. The context makes that plain. There is nothing in the Greek which suggests one way or another whether the reference is to something ordinarily learned or extraordinary enabled by the Spirit. The comparison with "prophecy," 'revelation," etc., and the terms "spirit" and "mind" indicate that something more than ordinary intelligence was involved.

I suspected that having read some 250 pages by David Prior but it is nice to have it confirmed.
