19th Century Presbyterian views on nature and stewardship of creation

An interesting question has come to the PCA Historical Center from a researcher:

...hoping to get a sense of whether the Presbyterian community in the early 19th century had any particular or distinct view of the nature world. The guy I'm writing about surveyed many wild places, and I am curious whether he would have thought of nature in any particular way, given his upbringing.

Obviously not an entirely answerable question, since we can't say precisely what views some given individual would have held. But I'm looking for answers/pointers the hive mind might offer on 19th century Reformed views on nature and the stewardship of creation.
