Puritan Board Senior
We have looked at this passage a number of times on Puritan Board.
Geneva translates it:
"For he hath made him to be sin for us, which knew no sin, that we should be made the righteousness of God in him."
The 1560 edition footnote says that to be sin means, "That is, a sacrifice for sin."
The 1560 edition footnote says that be made the righteousness of God in him means "By imputation, when we shall be clad with Christ's justice."
The 1599 edition footnote says that to be sin means, "A sinner not in himself, but by imputation of the guilt of all our sins to him."
The 1599 edition footnote says that which knew no sin means, "who was clean, void of sin"
The 1599 edition footnote says that be made the righteousness of God in him means "Righteousness before God, and that with righteousness which is not essential to us, but being essential in Christ, God imputeth it to us by faith"

Do I detect a significant change in theology between Geneva 1560 and Geneva 1599?
