Absolute shock. Very sad, but ultimately, I think it was a good trade. Better now to get something for him then to lose him to UFA in July for nothing.

Smyth followed the :moneywings:

And stupid stupid stupid STUPID Buffalo acquired Ty Conklin. Dumb. <you can't tell I'm bitter >

I've been reading the thread (and enjoying it). But I must say, it is hard to jump in when your a Washington Caps fan. The only things we've had to cheer about for the last 15 years was the strike season when we got to play golf a little earlier.
:( :(
Tell me about it. My Buffalo Sabres picked up Dainius Zubrus and Timo Helbling from the Caps for Jiri Novotny and a first-round pick. Zubaz should really help us down the stretch.

That's nice, as long as you don't mind the casinos getting involved. (You can thank Ed Rendell for that one. An old friend of mine in Pgh. told me about the casino thing 3 years ago. I could tell in the tone of his voice that he was thoroughly disgusted with that.)

Oh, well. At least Hot Sauce Blue Cheese (HSBC) Arena in Buffalo wasn't built with casino funds.

Freefall

Tellville, so sorry for what happened to your Edmonton Oilers. It was tragic to see them go on freefall once Ryan Smyth got traded to the NY Islanders.

At any rate, better luck for the Oilers next year. In the meantime, way to go Sabres for winning the President's Trophy! Bring the Cup to Buffalo's rightful possession in June!

Big games tomorrow: Devils - Islanders and Flames - Avalanche

If only Boston would have stopped Ottawa tonight :um:

Well done to Buffalo, way to be consistent this season. Who would you rather face in the first round Jason, the Leafs or the Islanders? I think the Islanders are more prone to being stopped quite easily whereas the Leafs are riding a lot of momentum and hype if the Islanders loose tomorrow.

Surprisingly this marks the first time that both teams from the Stanley Cup finals the year before (Oilers - Hurricanes) did not even make it back to the playoffs the following year.
