Meanwhile, the Dodgers are in last place in the National League West...

Oh, well - we've still got Vin Scully!

Houston's season hit an all time low over the weekend. I just learned that they decided to play "Sweet Caroline" during a game when Boston was in town over the weekend. Only problem is that that song is the unofficial anthem of Boston. It was bad enough that Boston fans outnumbered Houston fans 4:1, but to play the visitors anthem is just a pure slap in the face.

Sad sad sad.

I can't stand going to home games and having a majority of opposing fans there. Ridiculous. Of course I don't mind seeing Braves fans fill up other stadiums. :p

im a newb on the boards here, but wanted to toss my hat in the ring as a born and raised, dyed-in-the-wool st. louis cardinal fan.

this year has been unbelievable in the amount of injuries we've had...cant believe we are in 1st. it speaks to yes, the weakness of the n.l. central, but also the grit of this years stl team!

ive been to 2 games this year already (one of them got seats 8 rows behind the plate!!!!)and have tix for 2 more... cant wait!

This weekend is huge for my Braves. After today's win capping a 4-game sweep over the Rockies we head to Philly only 2.5 games back for a weekend series leading into the All Star Break. The problem is the Phillies are bringing out Halladay, Lee, and Hamels--who have already combined for 30 wins so far this year. It's a tall order but the Braves are on a roll and have some nice momentum right now. Sure would be nice to head into the second half on top of the NL East pile!

As a fellow Braves fan, I hope they can keep it up. If Uggla keeps hitting like he has the last couple of games and Jurrjens keeps it up it will be a good year. I'm not too worried about catching the Phils. Lots of wild card teams have gone far in the playoffs, even winning it all.

The way I see it Uggla is gonna come around and bat .250 - .300 in the second half [not likely though for the entire year]. It's a shame Jurrjens won't be taking the mound this weekend. Hudson either.

What are the odds that Bautista has as many or more home runs than Houston has wins by the All-Star break? Right now Bautista is only one behind.

Bautista=30 HRs
Houston=30 wins

Correction Bautista now has 31 HRs.

Thoughts on the recent trade activity anyone?

Phillies pick up Pence from the Astros to beef up the offense. Not sure anyone in the NL can go blow for blow with them now.

There was a lot of talk in Atlanta about whether or not we should rent Beltran from the Mets. He went to the Giants instead and frankly I'm pretty relieved. No way a 2-month rental was worth giving up a 5 star prospect.

I'm not nearly as in tune with the AL movement.

I heard that Atlanta was trying to pick up Bourn as well. Looks like the Astros are starting over completely from scratch. I thought the one guy worth saving was Pence.

I actually don't mind moving Pence, Bourn, or Wandy along. I honestly think we are a few years from being decent. By the time we can be competitive, these guys could be on the down slope of their career and not really helpful. If management can pick up some good prospects that will be good major leaguers in a few years, I say go for it. The possibility of four good players on the cheap for an aging player that costs more is worth it in my opinion.

I agree - I watched the Indians transition from the late 90s teams to the current iteration that same way. Some of the prospects they picked up: Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, C.C. Sabathia.

But Pence and Bourn are only 28.

The Mariners are actually doing decent this year (at least better than they were last year at this time).

Wow have things changed. We went on that 17 game losing streak and that changed everything. I hope we can at least have a .500 season.

Just went back to my picks in the OP and compared them to the current standings. I'm spot on so far with both the NL East and AL East. Every other division...eh, not so much.

Congrats to Jim Thome for reaching 600 career home runs. He is a class act and now a lock for the Hall of Fame.
