Puritan Board Doctor
Hello all. I hope you guys watched the Ohio State-Notre Dame game, because it was a doozy. Anyway, this week, it was hard to be balanced among the conferences because the SEC just has better games this week than any of the other conferences. I chose this week to include Georgia (even though they're heavy favorites) because it is a rivalry game ("The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry"), and anything can happen, especially as it is at Auburn, and Georgia does not look nearly as dominant this year. I did manage to include at least two games from each of the Power 5.

I’m an avid UK homer, but I dont like their chances vs Florida. They’ve not played anyone close to their caliber of talent. Vandy scored 28 on them, yes 15 were scored after the game was decided, but I think the Gators can hang a lot of points on them, hence me choosing them over UK.

Given my performance this season, it wouldn't be a bad plan. But the only thing I've checked is the tiebreaker - since I've been getting in late I want to make sure it doesn't match a prior entry.

Work's been pretty rough this fall.

Yeah, well this week 4 games don’t matter and another 2 all of us but 1 agree… that’s the consequence of including 5 games with double-digit spreads: it funnels us to a lot of overlap and results in less games mattering.

I wish it was part of the “constitution” of the Pick ‘Em that though the Convener is free to pick any matchup, if he includes a matchup with a spread greater than 7 points he is duty bound to select the underdog team as his personal pick. This would result in far fewer games with double-digit spreads, with their predictable overlap of unanimous picks that result in games not counting. Now THAT sounds like a common sense rule.

But it’s not, so we drive on.

Had to check the lists once and once again just to make sure the totals were right - and so they are. It seems that Dan and I both had nearly perfect slates of games chosen, each of us missing just one to lead the pack with 12 correct predictions. And, so we turn again to the tiebreaker, and I've finally broken the streak of getting into the tiebreaker and then losing.

This time we didn't need to go past the first step, as I correctly chose the Kentucky Wildcats to defeat the Gators of Florida. The Wildcats hopped out to a large early lead and never looked back. Quite a few interesting displays of offense (or lack of defense) in some of this week's games, including BYU-Cincinnati, South Carolina-Tennessee, and especially the crazy contest in Oxford, which I joked to Ben about via text midway through, that the game was going to end up 54-50. A few impressive victories by teams coming back from significant deficits to do it, too (Boston College over UVA, for instance). On to week 6, we go!

I'll forgo the usual congratulatory remarks to myself for winning this week's :flamingscot: :)
