All right folks, here we are at Week 16. With this week’s slate of games we will have reached the end of regular season play. It’s been a wild year of college football. I hope you’ve enjoyed the ride!

This week’s games fall on Saturday, Dec 14. This date also happens to contain the first two bowl games of the year. This is unfortunate that bowl games would be scheduled before the Army/Navy game has been played, but oh well. Please note that for our purposes, the 2 bowl games played on Dec 14 will be part of the Week 16 competition rather than the Bowl Bash. The 2024 PB Pick'em Bowl Bash will commence with games on Tuesday, Dec 17. (More to follow about the Bowl Bash… stay tuned!)

I’ve had to dig deep and scrounge far and wide, but I believe I have brought forward to you, my insatiable college football aficionado, a slate of games of at least passable, even if subpar, composition.

Enjoy this, your final week of regular gameplay for the 2024 College Football PB Pick’em! Kickoff is 8pm this Friday!

Don't hate me - I have a super busy week and will be traveling Friday-Saturday to watch my firstborn graduate from university so I have no time for my usual rigorous prep and will not see any games. So I am (again - but for the last time, promise!) going with all of the home teams again EXCEPT Army - the game is in Landover, MD, which is 25 miles from the USN Academy and 271 miles from the USM Academy, so I am seeing this as a home game for Navy (trying to learn from last week's "mistake"...):

Tie-Breaker

(Picking the home teams is not really a bad strategy in post-season play - there's a reason I'm not picking the "away" teams!)

I was going to suggest (tongue-in-cheek) that someone try this but didn't think there was a prize for lowest number of wins in a week...

The freezing Scot does exist out there. I have never gotten lowest number of wins yet. I think I got second lowest once but usually I am above the mean and a few short sometimes one or two short of the winner. I can't believe I won one.

Ok, should I happen to be fortunate enough to win the Bowl Bash and serve as the league commissioner (aka Grand PoohBah) next year, I'm bringing in the wooden spoon, awarded to the season's "winner" for lowest number of wins in a week (or should we make it a weekly award, and have a Wall of Shame, where people could compete for the largest number of wooden spoons?)

By the way, this season's wooden spoon winner is yours truly, having had just four correct in Week 11 :)

I'm rooting for you. I am rooting for anyone other than me to win.

Setting this up from week to week seems like a lot. Especially the time it takes to scour the lower divisions to puzzle all of us with picking this year's winner of the annual rivalry match-ups between Tiny School A & M vs. Small Town U and later Small Town U vs. Small Town Tech.

(I almost used Smallville U vs. Smallville Tech but decided against it since that would be as easy for us as looking up which one Clark Kent goes to) :P

I briefly thought of doing a dunce cap or something for the one who gets the fewest correct, but thought better of it when I realized that not everyone would find being faux-shamed humorous… and the last thing I wanted to do was be the one to kill the Pick’em.

But if someone else has the will to introduce it… by all means!

I volunteer. I think I am going to get it this week.

Nearly all road wins? After a week of nearly all home wins? The Illuminati ensconced in their temple under Vegas would not be this stupid.

It turns out that the wooden spoon was some of a badge of honor at Cambridge, where it was first introduced. The last place (but earning a passing grade) in a set of particularly challenging exams known as the Mathematics Tripos, was awarded a giant wooden spoon - and was often greeted with uproarious applause at the end of year honors. I promise it will be an honored place among us :)

Well, you have the distinction of having the lowest # of correct picks of any single game... but of those who have participated since week 1, I have the lowest # of correct picks for the season. (But hopefully that'll change with Week 16!)

Hey brother, as an FYI... you picked the exact same teams across the board as I did. :)

I make all my picks, and then adjust the tiebreaker score if anyone else picked the same score. So if they have a lot of overtimes and it ends up looking like a basketball score, I'll beat you on the tiebreaker.

Ok, I was just trying to softly warn you…. It hasn’t turned out well for me at all this season, so if your picks match mine you might be consigning yourself to the bottom of the week. But at least I’ll be there to keep you company.

I thought the enforced "go-for-two" after 2 OTs (or 3?) did away with that. But does that change for the playoffs and I simply don't know that? Like the NHL does shootouts in the regular season, but for the playoffs it is all sudden death OTs no matter how long it takes?

EDIT: I Thought this was Bowl Bash so I realize my question makes no sense now, but my question is still out there as to OT rules for the playoffs. Is it different for playoffs like it is for hockey and MLB, which if memory serves in the playoffs, the batting team is not spotted a runner on second like they are in the regular season.

As far as I know, there are no rule changes for the playoff games vs. any other games.
