Are you sure the large scale movement of Yemeni Jews (who were never very numerous) over the last century wasn't do primarily to economic and messianic reasons? And that they're all gone? And that Yemen isn't actively trying to keep some of them? Remember the Jerusalem Post is the Israeli equivalent of the National Enquire or the Fox News Channel. Just food for thought....

I'm inclined to agree with Tim. India has seen a large decrease in the Jewish population due to the 'Aliyah'; as a result, many synagogues now stand vacant.

As far as I am aware, the Jews generally fared well in India under both Hindu and Muslim rulers; I believe the first Jews arrived around 2500 years ago. I think the worst persecution came from the Portuguese during one of their inquisitions.

I recently read an article in an Indo-centric magazine about the decline of Jews in India. Most left for the reasons Tim stated: messianic and economic.
