Puritan Board Doctor
The legendary German classical baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau turned 82 on May 28th. His 45-year singing career (1947-1992) demonstrated him to be, quite simply, the most important classical baritone of the 20th century.

Among his many, many achievements in both opera and lieder singing: he and the late English pianist Gerald Moore (1899-1987) spent six years (1966-1972) recording all of the songs (lieder) of Franz Schubert appropriate for the male voice. This is quite an accomplishment when one remembers that Schubert wrote more than 600 songs!

He has also had a second career as a conductor (orchestras, not trains), which he still plies occasionally.

Happy birthday, Dieter!
