a mere housewife

Not your cup of tea
Ruben is out of town training for his job, and I am amusing myself with tortilla chips and bills and listening to music that makes me think of him but would drive him crazy :). I poked online and found this song: before we were married Ruben sang a few lines of it to me clowning around, and has been unable to escape the ramifications since --much as he would prefer the defining song of our early relationship to be something dreadful and terrifying like Carl Orff's 'O Fortuna'. I'm afraid, as Elizabeth Bennett says, that he cannot escape the acquaintance now. I was wondering if there are interesting songs/stories others have (it doesn't have to be anything very personal, it can be a defining song for you and your dog, etc)?

Here is Carl Orff, for good measure:

The song for myself and Mrs Pettit has always been "Honey" by Bobby Goldsborough, we used to sing it each night before we went to sleep.

When my wife and I were dating "our song" was Keeper of the Stars. It was a country song, and looking back on it, it was kind of a sappy song. I told her I was going to sing it at our wedding, but I lost my nerve.

Blue Moon while we were dating was our song! I know that really is an old one but then............

Aww, she is just spectacular, sad, goose bumpy! Today would have been his birthday if the Lord had not called for him! I do love that song and she sings it so beautifully! Thanks for that special memory today!!

Christiana, yes - 'spectacular and sad and goosebumpy'. --What you said about your husband is the same. I have prayed you can share his heavenly joy today, as you shared in his earthly happiness on his past birthdays. Thanks for posting about him.

Ryan, probably most such songs are 'sappy' songs.

And yes, the Platters are very enjoyable :).

While I am very happy being single, I sure miss dancing to Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday, and Frank Sinatra.

This song has always made me cry.

Joshua, yes: I've written some lousy poems for Ruben but restrained myself from putting them to music when I realized that not even the power of love at its blinding zenith of -- prenuptial infatuation can make a classical music fan like my voice.

So Randy, where do you choke up -- when the tree is just a twig, or when he laughs at her when she's mad, or when he buys her a puppy, or 'now my life's an empty stage where honey lived and honey played'

(sobs)

I just really have always appreciated that song since I was a child. Death was always looming in my mind because I feared being separated from my Mom and Dad. I loved them so much as a child. I thought they were the real love song in life. And I couldn't imagine someone having to live life without the one or persons they loved.

I hate death for that very reason.

BTW, I am very encouraged in the fact that you meditate and think longingly for your husband. It is good to see and know love still lives in the hearts of people.

I might be a little off balance here but I like emotional crying. It keeps the heart soft.

It's healthy too.

We have an Anti-song!!

Hi Y'all,

My wife and I don't have a 'our song', but we have an Anti-Song. In the very early days of our courting (like our first or second night out together), this song came on the radio, and my wife said "I hate Peter Frampton!" I raised my hands and said "I Love You, Me too!!" The rest is history!

YouTube - Peter Frampton show me the way 1976

I love my wife!!

My husband had the band play "Peg o' My Heart" at our wedding reception. I was touched: I didn't think Germans even knew the song existed... :D

Now, however, this is probably more our "speed:"
