I can't get this song out of my head..and I don't even remember when I learned it...other than when I was a child..

How many of you remember this song???? anyone???

CHORUS
Michael, row the boat ashore, Hallelujah
Michael, row the boat ashore, Hallelujah

Sister help to trim the sail, Hallelujah
Sister help to trim the sail, Hallelujah

Chorus

River Jordan is chilly and cold, Hallelujah
Chills the body, not the soul, Hallelujah

Chorus

The river is deep and the river is wide, Hallelujah
Milk and honey on the other side, Hallelujah

Chorus

Brother lend a helping hand, Hallelujah
Brother lend a helping hand, Hallelujah

Chorus

Men fight on with sword and gun, Hallelujah
Don’t they know the battle’s won, Hallelujah

Does anybody remember the Peace Corps volunteers singing that song in the Tom Hanks movie Volunteers? :D

No, but I remember my hippy cousins singing it around a campfire in the late 60s. They then sang some of the other old goodies to, including, oddly, The Green Beret.

Revenge! I must get revenge!

Kum bay yah, my lord
Kum bay yah!
Kum bay yah, my lord
Kum bay yah!

You get the idea...

Thanks for sticking that in our collective heads Bobbi. It's kind of like a spark isn't it? You know how it is with a spark.... it only takes a spark to get a fire going. Hey, you know what that brings to mind....

It only takes a spark to get a fire going.
And soon all those around can warm up in its glowing.
That's how it is with God's love,
Once you've experienced it,
You spread His love to everyone;
You want to pass it on.

What a wondrous time is spring, when all the trees are budding;
The birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming.
That's how it is with God's love;
Once you've experienced it,
You want to sing, "It's fresh like spring",
You want to pass it on.

I wish for you my friend, this happiness that I've found.
You can depend on Him, it matters not where you're bound.
I'll shout it from the mountain top, (HEY WORLD!)
I want the world to know;
The Lord of love has come to me,
I want to pass it on.

Pass It On

Enough already!

Divisive tactics like this will not be tolerated on the PB. Bobbi - you will NOT post songs like this again. Bawb - how dare you share with us lyrics that are nothing but tripe. I am embarrassed and sickened. You want a song? One that will edify and bring people together? Well, here it is:

The Edifying Song

Everyone don your WWJD garb, pull up a chair and let's begin!

On a hilltop in Italy
We assembled young people
From all over the world
To bring you this message
From Coca-Cola Bottlers
All over the world
It's the real thing - Coke.
And they sang...

I'd like to buy the world a home
And furnish it with love
Grow apple trees and honey bees
And snow white turtle doves.

Chorus:
I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company
That's the real thing.

(Repeat chorus)
I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company
That's the real thing

Chorus 2:
What the world wants today
Coca-Cola (background)
Is the real thing

(Repeat chorus 2)
What the world wants today
Coca-Cola (background)
Is the real thing

I'd like to teach the world to sing
Sing with me (background)
In perfect harmony
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company
That's the real thing

(Repeat chorus)
I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company
That's the real thing.

(Chorus 2)
What the world wants today
Coca-Cola (background)
Is the real thing

(Repeat chorus 2)
What the world wants today
Coca-Cola (background)
Is the real thing

One of my earliest memories, is of my parents and I sitting on the living room floor singing this song. I was about three, and I remember being mesmerized by my dad's gold rings as he played the guitar. I thought the song was about me, and I remember thinking that to "row the boat ashore" meant to die.

Hahaha! We must have sung this one a THOUSAND times at youth group when I was a kid.

"Michael (Row the Boat Ashore)"

It was a hit by the Kingston Trio during the early 60's and was part of the Folk Music craze ... you know, New Christy Minstrels, Chad Mitchell Trio, Peter Paul and Mary, Joan Baez ...
