First, for Blasphemy, Scripture, Ethers & School-men, desi[gnate] Blasphemy against God, to attribute of God, or affirm of him that, that is not agreeable unto him; or detracting from him, and denying of him that which is proper unto him. Now, what do I, or my Book affirm of God that is Blasphemous? If I were guilty of Blasphemy, especially of that kind, it were unworthy I should live.

A Blasphemer is the worst of all Creatures, A mad Dog that flyeth in his Master’s face, or like a viperous Child that will pierce the heart of his Father, as the Story hath it; or as sacred Writ speaks of the Blaspheming Egyptian, according to the Original. He smote or pierced through God’s Name. An accustomed Blasphemer (as a Worthy of out Nation saith) is a Devil incarnate. …
