I have nearly completed Patrick Allitt's (history prof at Emory) American Religious History, an audio series. It is a good high-level overview of major events and personalities in America's religious history. There are a few things I would take issue with, but still overall, it is a useful, broad overview.
If you have an interest, I recommend using your public library's interlibrary loan feature. I get all sorts of great stuff using that.
