One of the most remarkable turning points in Christian history was the great evangelical awakening in Wales which changed the course of that country from paganism to Calvinistic Christianity for almost 200 years. On of the key figures in the first half century of the turnaround was William Williams who most know only as the author of the hymn "Guide me O thou great Jehovah". But as Joel Beeke notes Williams was much more than that: "an able preacher, theologian, poet, and hymnist who richly deserves an honoured place in the church's hall of fame and in the memories of believers." Of this book Dr. Michael Haykin writes: "Bread of Heaven is at once a deeply learned study of Williams and his times but also a labour of love that bears the expectation that reading the life of such a saint of God can have profound spiritual benefit."
