Actually, the man they refer to is Langley's Piers Ploughman. They also build their case off of Beowulf, which is the finest retelling of the Christian story.

As a wannabe-Medievalist myself, I have to ask myself the question, "Are they really medieval?" Well, no. It is true that the medievals had a unified worldview which participated in God (never mind the scholastic compromises). It is also true that as a whole, the medievals were more joyful than we are. Sadly, there is little documentation in the book proving their case (though there are some interesting suggestions from CS Lewis).

Dont get me wrong, I have read the book several times and thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it. It is more of a deconstruction of medievalism than an exposition of medievalism.
 
Just read the chapter on the Protestant view of justification; what Doug Jones says about Rome could also be applied to Rich Lusk and Norman Shepherd.
