Reformed Covenanter

Cancelled Commissioner
Anthony Burgess exhorted the members of the House of Commons to be found:

Encouraging learning, and the knowledge of the tongues; for howsover translations may be good, yet in regard of the emphasis of the Original, we may say as the Queen of Sheba to Solomon, that which she heard was nothing to the glory she saw.

Anthony Burgess, The difficulty of and the encouragements to a reformation a sermon preached before the honourable House of Commons at the publick fast, Septem. 27, 1643 (London: Thomas Underhill, 1643), p. 18.

I’ll have to be content with merely hearing the “emphasis of the Original” then, and not seeing it.

Do you consider that sufficient?
