In the library the other day, I noticed Bavinck's name on a Latin text: Synopsis Purioris Theologiae. Originally published in 1625, Bavinck edited and republished it.

I'm hoping some people on the board who know more about Bavinck could shed some light on the significance of this work. Why did Bavinck go to the trouble to edit a nearly 700 page treatise? How did he use it? Etc.

The Leiden synopsis is a very important product of Protestant Scholasticism. Bavinck quoted from it pretty often, and some time later, Heppe did as well. I think there are few works from that period with a better claim to wide influence or a more urgent need to be translated.
