A prayer for today: O Lord God, put to death our idols! Destroy our high places! Break down our incense altars! that we may no longer worship the works of our hands. Let us no longer trust in our own labors to save us. Remove from us our false supports and those creaturely things on which we rely for safety and strength. Remind us that in you alone is true safety to be found. You alone are our strength. You alone give us true life. Be pleased to make us green olive trees in the house of the Lord, always bearing fruit. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Ezekiel 6:1-7; Psalm 52:8)
