Sorry...they are #2

Hate to be divisive on this issue, but clearly the #1 band of all time is U2. These are the facts, and they are undisputed.

Going to throw my weight behind U2 as well. Probably not the greatest musicians in the world ever but their sheer longevity and quality of song-writing over the years wins it for me.

To be honest, I'm more of a Radiohead fan but I don't think have had the shelf-life to be declared the best band ever (just yet). Think the Smiths, the Clash ad the Jam were excellent but not quite in the same league.

I sure there is an argument for the Beatles, given their massive influence on music, but I simply don't like them (for a host of reasons).

I think Zeppelin's variety in music styles and their mystical and deep lyrics not to mention the sheer awesomeness of Bonham's Drums and Jones' Bass (Both the best ever at their position) win's it for Zeppelin.

I'm with my buddy Ben on this one. LZ is clearly #1. I would probably put Pink Floyd in at #2.

U2 is good, but as someone pointed out, the musical talent is not on the same level. I heard somewhere that when they first started out, they couldn't do covers of songs b/c they weren't good enough on their instruments! They had to write their own music as a consequence.

Besides, it was the influence of bands like U2 (along with REM) that gave rise to that awful period for music affectionately known as "grunge rock"...

:offtopic: slightly but Turretin flows well with Pink Floyd I have found. While Led Zeppelin goes best with Samuel Rutherford and/or John Owen. Charlie Daniels and John Murray seem to click as well.

I agree!

Led Zeppelin is the epitome of all that was good from the beginning of "rock" music. Every member of the band is elite in their respective roles:

Plant's vocal abilities are amazing. It is reported that Sandy Denny lost her voice trying to keep up with plant while recording "The Battle of Evermore" on LZ IV. He was the pioneer of the "whisper to wail" in rock.

Jimmy Page is well Jimmy Page - inventive and talented.

John Paul Jones could do anything with the bass , yet he never over did it and laid down the perfect line to accompaniment Page and Bonham. "Ramble On" from LZ II is my favorite JPJ bass line. He could also rock out with the organ.

Bonzo is among the best all time with the likes of Keith Moon and Neil Peart.

My favorite song from my favorite album:

I cast my vote in with LZ being all time #1 band for all the reasons already mentioned.

Here's my favorite song:

As far as LZ favorites go, I'd have to second "When the Levee Breaks" along with a couple of others:

Kashmir
The Ocean
Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid

I don't know how to embed YouTube videos or I would post those as well.

All you need to do is type the name of the song and hyperlink it.

Led Zep, and U2? thay were ok. I am a Prog rock kinda guy so my fave's would be, Camel, King Crimson, Genesis (w/Gabriel) Yes, ELP, Pink Floyd.

Cream and The Who would be high on the list as well as ZZ Top, Skynard, Floyd, Hendricks, The Guess Who, Van Halen, Eagles, Bad Co., ... the list is long. But I have to say LZ is at the top of my list for all time #1 band.

But speaking of "Sweet Home Alabama", I almost candidated for the pastorate at a church in Muscle Shoals once. I had already been offered a call elsewhere, though.

"Now muscle shoals has got the swampers, and they've been known to pick a song or two..."
