Really enjoyed the detail and style of this book (s?) Are there similar books that came out of Greece/Rome?

Herodotus strikes one as rather more gossipy, but very enjoyable reading. You've already run into Xenophon, but might also be interested in Arrian and Dio Chrysostom. From the Roman world, for dignity and unity, probably Tacitus is the closest parallel to Thucydides.

I love Herodotus and delight every time he is proved right by doubting scholars. He is like the ancient world's Alex Jones.

The March of the Ten Thousand (the Anabasis) by Xenophon is very thrilling also.
