Hello Sports Fans, It's Time to Finish the Season Right With a Bowl Games Pickems.
The format we'll be using is similar to the one they use on ESPN. It's a little bit more challenging, but I promise it's a lot of fun. Sorry I haven't gotten it going earlier, but it's Christmas at my church and the in laws have been in town.
THE RULES
The pickems involves all the bowl games where each "picker" selects the winner of each game (straight up, without concern for the spread) and each game is of equal value in and of itself. It is the "picker" who assigns a number value to each pick based on the confidence they have in each individual pick. Since there are 35 bowl games you would place the pick you are most confident in with a point value of 35, you would place your second most confident pick with a 34 value, and so on. Obviously, the pick you have the least amount of confidence in would be placed with a value of 1. Each game can only be picked once, and each number value can only be used once. The object is to accrue as many points as you can. For example, I'm very confident that Oklahoma is going to beat UConn like a rented mule, so I'll pick the Sooners to win and place that pick in one of the higher point values (like 35, 34, or 33). I'm only fairly confident that my Gamecocks are going to beat FSU so I'll place that pick with one of the middle point values (like 25, or 26). I'm not very confident in my Sugar Bowl pick (tOSU vs. Arky) so I'll place that pick (I'm picking the Buckeyes) with one of the lower point values (like 3,2 or1). You don't get any points for incorrect picks nor do you lose any points for incorrect picks. And, you begin accruing points from the date of your first correct pick. I'll also include a tiebraker for this format even though it's unlikely we'd need one.
Sample: (not a comprehensive sample, just a few to give you a visual example)
35. Fiesta Bowl - Oklahoma over UConn
34. New Mexico Bowl - BYU over TX El Paso (I'm very confident in these two picks)
.
.
.
26. Chick Fila Bowl - S. Carolina over FSU (I'm fairly confident in this pick)
.
.
.
2. Rose Bowl - Wisconsin over TCU
1. New Orleans Bowl - Troy over Ohio (I'm not very confident in these picks)
I'll copy and paste my picks from another contest I'm involved in shortly.
All Picks Should be in by Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2PM, when the first bowl game begins.
Please include the score of the game of your choice for the tiebreaker, in the unlikely case that two "pickers" tie. Whomever guesses the score the closest to the actual score wins the tiebreaker.
You will be allowed to make changes to your picks before the beginning of the first bowl game, but not after. Please post all your picks at once and do not come back multiple times to make changes as I will begin recording you picks as soon as you post them.
Ask and questions you may have on this thread.
I'll post weekly (at least) updates on where everyone stands at that moment, including present totals, and possible points you have remaining.
