I bought The Institutes of the Christian Religion by John Calvin translated by Henry Beveridge and published by Hendrickson. I was recently given Calvin's Institutes (2 Vol.) by the Westminster Press as a gift from a church family. Is there any difference in the two? Is one better than the other? Are they both worth keeping on my shelf?

They are the exact same work. I prefer the Beveridge because it does a better job of translating, remaining more faithful to the Latin. Battles, however, is more readable. I guess I would recommend Battles to those who struggle with antiquated English and latinisms. Some of Battle's footnotes are erroneous and he sometimes mistranslates technical terms. I believe Richard Muller discusses these things in Calvin in Context.

I have Beveridge on an epub on my phone and love it.
