Okay, this is probably a bit of a shot in the dark, but I'm kind of stuck and need help, so I figured I'd try. :)

Do any of you guys know much about cars - esp. older (93) Civics? I've somehow messed up the alarm on mine so that I can NOT get in without setting off the alarm - and if I do get in with it being quiet, I can't start it without setting the alarm off.
Oh, and I can't start my car either. Last time I had a problems with the alarm, I could still start it.
So I'm really not sure what to do - either about the alarm or about it not starting. :-( My only guess with the problem starting it is that since I haven't driven it for nearly a week & the weather's just gotten a lot colder I might have a problem with the battery. But the inside light still works . . .

??

is the alarm from Honda or was it added after the car was purchased? What kind of alarm is it?

I'm not sure when the alarm was installed. The remote thing that I have for it has a VIPER logo on it.

Did you just change the car battery?

VIPER is usually an aftermarket product. You need to look under the dash and find out what kind and model it is.

Here are some threads you can look through to see if the problem is the same:

You could also call a local business that sells alarm products. Odds are, your alarm may be bad, and they could walk you through how to disconnect or reset it - especially if they sell VIPER products. They may also have a number for the company that sells VIPERs. I coudlnot find it on the web.

Fred,
Thanks.
No I didn't just change the battery . . . though I'm not sure if the battery is working (because I can't start the car). :um:

if a VIPER goes haywire it may disable the starter - you said the lights come on but the engine won't crank - right?

You need to call a shop that sells VIPERS as they will be able to either tell you how to disengage the system, or how to reset the system so that you can get the car to start.

My car alarm goes off if I only open the drivers side doorlock. I have to have more than 1 door lock open in order to disarm the alarm.

Car alarms are something I could easily do without .

I guess I'm somewhat from the old school.

Thanks guys! :)

I called a friend from church who's a mechanic & got some advice . . . jumpstarted my car, drove my car to my parent's house (the battery was so low by then that the alarm didn't go off) . . . we took the alarm out. :) When it went off shortly after midnight last night I didn't feel safe going to see what was going on, so I figured that the alarm was pointless & just causing problems. And I'm re-charging the battery now (I was stupid & left my lights on after I'd got it started). So hopefully I'll be okay . . . I'm just not sure why the battery was that low in the first place.

Jessica,

Very glad to hear that your problem is being resolved. Praise God for his blessings to us in the manifold body of Christ! I for one am glad for the diversity of gifts, including mechanics!

Closing.
