Carnal parents may frown

I was inspired by Mr. Grant to share some quotes from what I am reading right now, a Treatise of Self-denial by the Rev. Thomas Manton.

"There are many cases wherein we are to deny our friends; as suppose, when we shall incur their displeasure, out of faithfulness to Christ. Carnal parents will frown upon us, and, it may be, withdraw maintenance, and other conveniences of life; but it is better an earthly father frown than that God should frown, it will be made up in spiritual relations."

I personally attached to this as my unbelieving father often frowns upon my lack of desire for recreational dating, sexual relations, and attending sporting events with him on Sundays. He has, thank the Lord, never withdrawn maintenance or love from me.
