Puritan Board Doctor
Well the 2011 College football season is drawing to a close, but the good news is, we have the bowl games for approximately the next three weeks! To finish out the Pick'em season, we are going to go with the Bowl Pick'em set up from last year.
All who won a week during the season are eligible so according to the last tally, that includes Romans922, Edward, Frosty, Beoga, John Lanier, Kainos01, and yours truly. The winner this year will not only win PuritanBoard bragging rights, but also the honor of heading up Pick'em next year. And I'm also sweeting the deal with a $15 Amazon giftcard for the winner (myself excluded of course). So here are the rules for the Bowl Pick'em:
THE RULES
This Pick'em involves all the bowl games where each "picker" selects the winner of each game (straight up, without concern for the spread) and each game is of equal value in and of itself. It is the "picker" who assigns a number value to each pick based on the confidence they have in each individual pick. Since there are 35 bowl games you would place the pick you are most confident in with a point value of 35, you would place your second most confident pick with a 34 value, and so on. Obviously, the pick you have the least amount of confidence in would be placed with a value of 1. Each game can only be picked once, and each number value can only be used once. The object is to accrue as many points as you can.
For example, I'm very confident that Boise St is going to beat Arizona St in the Las Vegas Bowl, so I'll pick the Broncos to win and place that pick in one of the higher point values (like 35, 34, or 33). I'm only fairly confident that Houston will beat Penn St so I'll place that pick with one of the middle point values (like 25, or 26). I'm not very confident in my Nat'l Championship pick (LSU vs 'Bama) so I'll place that pick with one of the lower point values (like 3,2 or 1). You don't get any points for incorrect picks nor do you lose any points for incorrect picks. And, you begin accruing points from the date of your first correct pick. Lastly, I'll also include a tiebraker for this format even though it's unlikely we'd need one. Click here for a schedule of all the Bowl games.
Sample: (not a comprehensive sample, just a few to give you a visual example)
35. Las Vegas Bowl - Boise St over Arizona St
34. Insight Bowl - Oklahoma over Iowa (I'm very confident in these two picks)
.
.
.
26. TicketCity Bowl - Houston over Penn St (I'm fairly confident in this pick)
.
.
.
2. Chick-Fil-A Bowl - Auburn over Virginia
1. BCS Nat'l Championship - Alabama over LSU (I'm not very confident in these picks)
All Picks Should be in by Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2PM ET, when the first bowl game begins.
Please include the score of the BCS Nat'l Championship (LSU vs 'Bama) for the tiebreaker, in the unlikely case that two "pickers" tie. Whoever guesses the score the closest to the actual score wins the tiebreaker.
You will be allowed to make changes to your picks before the beginning of the first bowl game, but not after. If you post and then decide to make changes, I would prefer you edit your original post, rather than add a new post to the thread. This will make it easier for me to record what you want without any confusion when the first game kicks off.
If you have any questions, please ask below.
I'll do my best to post at least weekly updates on where everyone stands at that moment, including present totals, and possible points you have remaining.
Thanks for playing!
