Do unbelievers possess Spiritual gifts? For example, King Saul was gifted by the Spirit but did not bear fruit. I see possession of Spiritual gifts to be a necessary condition, not a sufficient condition for salvation. In other words, you can posses Spiritual gifts but not Christ. You cannot be in Christ apart from the gift of his Spirit in you. Matthew 7:22-23 comes to mind as another example of possessing Spiritual gifts but not Christ. Would this be considered a common gifting of the Spirit? The alternative to my thinking would be that only those in Christ possess Spiritual gifts. Please let me know if I'm off base here. Thanks!
