I'm wondering if anyone can recommend good devotional reading on the advent narratives similar to what there is on the passion narratives.
I'm thinking works by older writers.
Christmas texts similar to Easter texts like:

Krummacher, F. W. Suffering Savior: Meditations on the Last Days of Christ.
Klaas Schilder Trilogy: Christ in His Suffering, Christ on Trial, Christ Crucified

So many good books reflecting on the passion narrative - not so many on the nativity narrative ... any other suggestions?

Leo the Great's 8 sermons on the Feast of the Nativity are better than anyone would have a right to expect.

Thomas Manton has a very helpful sermon on Luke 2:52, in Works XVIII.

Spurgeon has about 37 sermons from those chapters of Scripture.

I printed out the devotion from Leo the Great and love it. Beautiful language used to clearly teach the doctrine of the Incarnation.
