"For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake..." Philippians 1:29
"For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps." 1 Peter 2:21
"But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed..." 1 Peter 4:13
"and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him." Romans 8:17
Does a believer share in the sufferings of Christ, does he suffer "with Him", when he suffers not because of his faith, but because of the sufferings of this fallen world alone? Does financial suffering, illnesses, griefs, abuses(when not for religious reasons), and the like, make a believer suffer for Christ's sake, as it says in Philippians 1:29? Or must one suffer for religious reasons; mocking, beatings, martyrdom, to suffer with Christ?
