This may not be news to someof you but I had never heard this regarding IVF,
I was looking at my wife's alumni mag from Penn State and I came across the writings of a "conservative" researcher at Penn State named Kent Vrana who supports embryonic stem cell research.
One of his arguing points is this:
"In vitro fertilization destroys up to 12 embryos for every one pregnancy achieved therefore it is hypocrisy to be against stem cell research and FOR in vitro fertilization."
