Dear pilgrims

Hi, I need some help in my bible reading today.

First, I'm reading it through the lens of the doctrine of grace (Calvinism).

When it comes to 3:26, in the context where Peter delivered a sermon right after the miracle, said:

"To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities." NKJV

How should I go about interpreting this text?

I'm a freshman, so you may need to go down to my level =(

V. 25, "Ye are the children of the prophets and of the covenant." The audience is addressed as having a covenant interest in God. Since the preaching does not assume all in covenant with God are partakers of the blessing we will have to distinguish between those "of Israel" and those who "are Israel." There is a twofold aspect to what is promised. So far as the bare revelation of grace is concerned, there is a promise of blessing to those who hear with the condition that they turn away from their iniquity. This is the proclamation and offer of the gospel. But inwardly, and effectually, God promises the grace to turn His people from their iniquities. This is the gift and power of the gospel. The outward call is universal; the inward call is particular.
