Finally got some blooms from one of the plants I got seed from several years ago. This one is from high in the mountains of Chile. Most of the genus Eriosyce protect themselves be big spines, but this one sinks into the soil after blooming so you hardly ever see them. In cultivation you can water it a bit more than it gets in nature and enjoy it during more of the year.

It's amazing how flowers that beautiful can sprout from a plant that's otherwise that ugly. :)
