Commenting on the printing of Edward Fisher’s Marrow of Modern Divinity, the historian Donald Beaton said that “The book was published with the imprimatur of Joseph Caryl, known to students of Puritan theology by his voluminous commentary on the book of Job, a work the reading of which as has been remarked might well have exhausted the patience of the patriarch himself.”
