Thou may have a shadow of glory in the world for a while, but as the must before the Sun vanishes away, so shall thou and thy glory vanish away, to thy everlasting confusion, if thou strive not to have the glory of God before thy eyes.

Robert Rollock, Lectures upon the first and second Epistles of Paul to the Thessalonians (Edinburgh: Robert Charteris, 1606), p. 7.

I'm reminded of the last line from Newton's hymn, Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken . . .

Fading is the worldling's pleasure,
All his boasted pomp and show;
Solid joys and lasting treasure
None but Zion's children know.

I had that in the back of my mind when posting. Ironies never cease. :smug:
