You can tell a lot about a person by their music tastes. This thread is geared more towards those who love music and have particular tastes.

What are your favorite albums? I thought about restricting it to your Top 3, Top 5, or Top 10, but I thought it'd be fun to let you pick your own list restriction. But please try to restrict it--Don't just list a lot of albums you like. Also, don't just list artists that you like (e.g. "I love Michael W Smith). Try to be specific with albums.

Some of you music lovers will have a hard time narrowing it down to 5 or 10. I'm trying to get my 10 together, and I'll post them in a bit...

I'm not an "album" or "artist" person. I'm pretty picky, so I'm a "song-by-song" person.

Case in point: I love Evanescence's song My Immortal. But I don't like their harder or more depressing stuff. I also grew up listening to N*Sync (I know, I know) but I only liked some of their ballads. Some of their other songs were too risque for me to enjoy.

Dream Theater - Images and words
Metropolis pt. 2

Neal Morse - Testimony
One
Question Mark
Sola Scriptura

Iona - Open Sky
The Circling Hour

Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
Empire

Rich Mullins - A Liturgy, a legacy, and a ragmuffin band.

I've got more but I don't wish to do anymore typing :violin:

Third Day: Revelation
Third Day: Chronology 2
Bach: Brandenburg Concertos 1-4
Casting Crowns: The Altar and the Door
Mercy Me: Spoken For
Selah: Greatest Hymns
Selah: You Raise Me Up
John Cougar Mellencamp: The First Twenty Years (I think that is the name of the album)
Bon Jovi: Slippery When Wet
Rob Thomas: Something to Be
Alabama:Ultimate Alabama My favorite is probably The Closer You Get, but I don't own that anymore, but always loved that album.

Okay, there are my top 11. I have probably 30 complete CD's on my phone and I tend to listen to that everyday. I love so many different types of music, always have.

Alright, I've got my Top 10. When ever doing a Top ________ Albums list I generally abide by two rules:
1) Only use an artist/band once. As much as I'd like to list numerous Tom Waits or Radiohead albums, I like to make room for more artists.
2) Don't include compilations. A Greatest Hits doesn't have the authenticity of a studio album. There are many compilation albums of Sinatra that I LOVE, but those are just bits and pieces of Frank's albums. An album should tell a story, and a compilation breaks up the story.

Anyway, in no particular order:

1) Jeff Buckley: Grace (1994)
2) Van Morrison: Moondance (1970)
3) Air: Moon Safari (1998)
4) Tom Waits: The Heart of Saturday Night (1974)
5) Radiohead: OK Computer (1997)
6) Neko Case: Blacklisted (2002)
7) Arcade Fire: Funeral (2004)
8) Massive Attack: Blue Lines (1991)
9) Ryan Adams: Heartbreaker (2000)
10) Miles Davis: Kind of Blue (1959)

Well, there went half of my list.

In no particular order, some of my current top albums:

1) Flame: Our World: Fallen
2) Flame: Our World: Redeemed
3) Lecrae: Rebel
4) Newsboys: Go
5) Third Day: Revelation
6) dc Talk: Intermission: The Greatest Hits
7) Shai Linne: storiez
8) Casting Crowns: The Altar and the Door

I listen to a lot of other artists and genres, but it is typically on a song by song basis. 3 songs of Bob Marley, 5 of Led Zeppelin, 3 of MC Hammer, Celtic Woman, some Celine Dion (yes, I am very secure in my sexuality), etc.

My top 40 or so albums/CDs are all Bob Dylan. Take your pick. After Dylan, anything by Bach.

My favorite rock albums, in no particular order:

Bad Brains: Bad Brains
REM: Murmur
Dead Kennedys: Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables
Metallica: Master of Puppets
The Smiths: The Queen is Dead
Bob Dylan: Blood on the Tracks
Jane's Addiction: Nothing's Shocking
Pixies: Come on Pilgrim/Surfer Rosa
The Clash: The Clash

Great list Jon. I haven't heard all of The Smith's stuff, but I do like that album, especially Cemetry Gates. The only other album I have of theirs is their compilation Louder Than Bombs.
And The Clash were the last thing cut from my list. I love London Calling.

No particular order, but what I listen to often:

Complete Organ Works of Bach, played by Anton Heiler

Franck Symphony in D minor, Monteux conducting the Chicago Symphony

Various recordings of Bach’s Italian Concerto, French Suites, and other keyboard works on harpsichord

Brahms Symphony #4 in e minor, Bruno Walter conducting

Bach, Brandenburg Concertos, Peter Wolhert, Berlin Chamber Orchestra

Psalms of the Trinity Psalter, Scottish Festival Singers

Complete Organ Works of Bach, played by Peter Hurford

Jerry Jeff Walker, “Ridin’ High” (actually, I haven't listened to in a long time because I lost it, but I liked it when I had it. "RodeeRodeeRodeeo Cowboy, borderin' on insane.")

Soundtrack to the original Rollerball

Vocal Union--"Just Like The Old Days"
Vocal Union--"We've Got To Sing"
vocal Union--"The Vocal Union"
Vocal Union--"All Around Me"
Vocal Union--"Acappella Traditional"

Holst--"The Planets"

Gold City--"Revival"

Gilbert & Sullivan--"The Mikado"

There are a few others, but those are the ones I probably listen to most.

See, this is good. I'm learning new things. I have never heard of any of this before now.

Have you heard Kevin Bowyer's recordings of Bach's Organ Works?

In my car at the moment I have Hummel's piano trios, Cecilia Bartoli's Maria, Vivaldi's Manchester Sonatas and Concertos for the Emperor.

Well, Bach pretty much rules around this house. There was a time that I really liked Neil Young's Harvest and just about anything Dylan, Skynard, Clapton or Allman Brothers, but that music takes me back to a bad place, except maybe for Bob Dylan's work.

Here's my top 5:
