* 1591 -- Antoine de Chandieu, Huguenot and author of the French Confession of 1559, died;

* 1680 -- Thomas Goodwin, English Puritan, died;

* 1685 -- Birth of George Frederick Handel, German composer;

* 1689 -- Dutch Prince William III proclaimed King of England.
