Is the Louis Segond translation of the Bible reasonably modern French? I'm trying to learn French on my own, using a recording of Mark along with grammar books. If the French in that translation is outdated, can you suggest a more modern translation?

The nice thing about French is that it doesn't change as fast as English. The Segond is a sound translation.

I note that there is an updated Segond, called the Segond 21, which claims to use «L'original, avec les mots d'aujourd'hui» ("The original with today's words"). I haven't looked through it much, though.

Other modern versions tend to be more like the English language NIV or worse.

Yeah French is a heavily regulated language...

This helps a lot. The grammar book that I'm using was published in 1910, so that should still be o.k. also.
