A year ago I left a church that I would call hyper-dispensationalist.
I have been reading through the Bible and seeking the Lord to understand why this view is wrong. I know in my heart it is wrong, and can look back on the fruit in my life while under that teaching and see it did not have the blessing of the Holy Spirit. But I don't have a scriptural basis to back up my position.
My original background was a combination of Calvinist / dispensational (7 dispensations and not extreme). I was not aware that I later got involved with hyper-dispensational teaching until I was in the middle of it. I was taught that there are (2) plans of salvation (Jewish and gentiles), that many books are not TO us, though they are FOR us - the teachers just skipped right over them - Hebrews, James, I, II, III John and others. They also avoided the gospels, and believed the church didn't start until Paul was sent to the gentiles. I was told not to confess sins - that I was forgiven once and for all, and there was no emphasis on holy living.
I saw a post in a closed thread about dispensationalism that noted that eschatology was not the only problem with it - but that we couldn't have a clear understanding of LAW, SANCTIFICATION, SACRAMENTS, and COVENANTS with dispensational theology.
I would like to know more and would like to find scriptural back-up for what I am coming to believe.
