Family Reformation Promoted, and Other Works
by Daniel Cawdrey

William Gouge wrote "Of Domestical Duties," which may be one of the best works ever written on the family. He took much of his information from Daniel Cawdrey's father, and worked that into a long tome. Cawdrey, and other puritan ministers, loved Dr. Gouge for his work, but Cawdrey sat with Gouge explaining that most people would not read his work because 1) its too long, and 2) in those days it was too expensive. So Cawdrey asked Dr. Gouge to refine the work and make it managable. Gouge liked the idea, but he did not have time to do it, so commissioned Cawdrey to do it.

This work became Cawdrey's most popular work, ever. As a result, this work on Family Reformation became exceedingly popular with the laity. It covers the duties of husbands to wives, wives to husbands, children’s duties, as well as master and slaves. Cawdrey also includes a catechism to confirm the teachings of biblical truth in a reformed family.

Also included in this volume are many of the last of Cawdrey’s known works covering humility, the effects of a good man on the community in which he lives, as well as a short scholarly treatise on the role of the magistrate called “The Depths of Satan Discovered.”

This is not a scan or a facsimile, but a newly typeset work updated and made easily readable with an active table of contents.
